I am writing to tell you the experience that Alvaro and I (Anthony) have had since we have been matched up by Big Brothers. It has been an overwhelming experience for the both of us. Alvaro and I have been matched up since January 2008 and we are still going strong. When Alvaro and I first started hanging out, he wasn’t much into sports and seemed very quiet/shy. The reason for that was that he wasn’t sure if we would work out due to his past experience with matches. He had two big brothers before me and they both couldn’t commit to him which caused them to depart from one another. I made sure that Alvaro knew that wouldn’t happen with us.
Once Alvaro and I started to get to know each other more, he showed some interest in some of my passions, working out and football. I spend time helping him learn those things which made him want to get more involved with those hobbies. Alvaro eventually transferred to CCH and went out for the football team. Now he loves working hard to make himself better at football while he focuses on his schooling. I have seen Alvaro grow from a quiet kid to an outgoing individual. I can see how he’s more confident in himself to do the things he loves and to achieve his goals.
I am more than happy that I got matched up with Alvaro and I wouldn’t change that for the world. Even when he turns 18 and we “graduate” from Big Brothers, we will still be good friends and there for each other.
